Pactiv's roots trace to 1959, when three companies combined to form Packaging Corporation of America; Tenneco acquired PCA in 1965 and built out its plastic and foam packaging lines through acquisitions in the 1990s before spinning the business off as independent Pactiv Corporation in 1999. Evergreen Packaging, formed in 2007, joined Pactiv under Reynolds Group Holdings in 2010, and the combined company went public as Pactiv Evergreen in 2020. Headquartered in Lake Forest, Illinois, Pactiv Evergreen was acquired by Novolex in a $6.7 billion deal completed in April 2025. Pactiv Evergreen manufactures and distributes food and beverage packaging - including foam, molded fiber, aluminum, clear plastic, and pressware products - for packers, processors, supermarkets, restaurants, and institutions across North America, historically operating dozens of manufacturing plants, warehouses, and distribution centers. In 2021 the company acquired Fabri-Kal, a maker of thermoformed plastic and fiber packaging, for $380 million, broadening a foodservice container lineup that today spans hinged containers, foam trays, cake boards, and related disposable serveware - the categories AFS Marketplace carries from Pactiv. Pactiv Evergreen has pursued sustainability certifications across its plants, including ISCC PLUS certification at several North American facilities and FSC-Recycled certification for its molded fiber egg packaging in January 2025. The company organized its business into Foodservice, Food Merchandising, and Beverage Merchandising segments, and its foam, MFPP, and molded-fiber lines remain widely used across grocery, deli, and restaurant supply chains.
