About the Manufacturer

World Centric was founded in 2004 by Aseem Das in Petaluma, California, launching first as a nonprofit focused on humanitarian and environmental education before beginning to sell Fair Trade and compostable products in 2005-2006 to become self-sustaining. In 2009 the organization converted to a for-profit social enterprise, committing to give at least 25% of its profits to grassroots social and environmental organizations, and it earned B Corp certification in 2010 before formally becoming a California Benefit Corporation in 2013. The company manufactures certified compostable foodservice packaging built from plant-based materials rather than conventional plastic, spanning PLA-lidded paper and fiber products, molded plant-fiber bowls and lids, and its NoTree line of bamboo-paper cups, bowls, and containers that avoid tree pulp altogether - the compostable bowls, lids, cups, and cutlery AFS Marketplace carries from the brand. World Centric states its products break down in a commercial composting facility and are made without added PFAS, positioning the line as an alternative to plastic and foam foodservice packaging for restaurants, caterers, and delis. World Centric has continued to expand its plant-based catalog, including a ZeroWare line of reusable TPLA tableware, and lists sustainability certifications and memberships including B Corp, 1% For The Planet, the Sustainable Packaging Coalition, and the US Composting Council among its affiliations.
